Ternopil is a historic city in western Ukraine, approximately 120 km east of Lviv. At the time of the project, the existing monumental industrial complex was still partially active. I was immediately fascinated by the powerful character of the building and the potential of its vast industrial structure.

Our concept focused on preserving the architectural identity of the original building while transforming it into a contemporary commercial destination. Rather than replacing the existing structure, we used it as the foundation for the new design. A new intermediate level was introduced within the generous volume, with large openings and circular atriums creating visual connections between the floors.

The original exposed roof structure was retained and celebrated, complemented by new architectural elements and generous skylights that bring natural daylight deep into the building. Warm wood, glass, contemporary lighting, and refined finishes were introduced in contrast to the industrial framework.
